Shooting Fundamentals
The DNA of marksmanship is composed of seven fundamentals. All of these fundamentals are important and contribute to your consistency on the range.
However, there is a hierarchy and it starts with...
The Big Four
#1 Sight Alignment: The proper relationship between the front and rear sights of a pistol or iron sights of a rifle.#2 Sight Picture: The way the sights are superimposed on the target of choice.
#3 Trigger Control: The ability to know your trigger, to include: Break Point, Trigger Reset and Single Action Break Point (if your pistol is double to single action)
#4 Follow Through: The recovery and preparation phase for follow on shots. Follow Through is also very important when engaging moving targets.
The Rest of Them
That's right, not as important. We go over them here because, as a coach or a shooter, you may run into accuracy issues if you have problems with the following:
Grip: Proper grip has a mid level priority. Not quite as important as "the Big Four" but still rife with possible issues.
Stance & Breathing: Pure window dressing. Under stress, of all the fundamentals, these are the first casualties. They are still worth talking about.
