Stance
The range is about the only place you will have a perfect stance. Many competitions have gone to a "run and gun" style. This means shooting behind, over and around obstacles. Competitors will find themselves kneeling, crouched or even firing from prone or supine positions.
If you find yourself in an armed confrontation you will probably not be able to assume a perfect stance.
This doesn't mean that stance is irrelevant. By learning to shoot from a good stable platform, new shooters will be able to grasp the fundamentals more easily.

Elements of a good stance should include:
1. Weight forward over the balls of the feet.
2. Lowering of the center of gravity by a bend in the knees.
3. Feet about shoulder width apart.
4. Non-firing foot slightly in front of the firing foot.

If the firer is standing too erect, or their weight is back on their heels, they will be rocked backwards in multiple round engagements.
